The state school competition organisers have placed Victoria's children ahead of New South Wales children in their top state schools.

The Victorian government has a combined state and territory of 22.9 per cent and NSW has a share of 13.2 per cent.

The top state school in Victoria is a former National Primary School.

The National Primary School received its state education awards with a state share of 7.9 per cent and a combined state share of 12.5 per cent.

The State Secondary School of Technology got a state award, making it a Top State School.

Other state awards were given by the Victorian government for top schools with top state state share of 6.1 per cent and a combined state share of 13.3 per cent.

All the top state schools in Victoria in 2016-17 received awards from the Victorian government.

It's worth noting that the NSW Department of Education has also been awarded a state award by the Victorian government for state schools.

"I appreciate that the competition process was relatively complex from the outset, there were a number of opportunities to change how the awards were awarded and from the beginning, there's no doubt about that there were considerable changes from year to year that came into play," said Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

"The Victorian Government will honour the state awards it has already won and will use all opportunities to continue to grow this state's schools into world-class places."
